Background to the Business and its Principals:

The Barkland Tree Specialists (Arboriculturalists) business is based on twelve years of the Partners’ collective experience in owning or managing and administering an arboricultural business.

Steve Owens, as the Senior Partner in the business has great deal of experience in the industry, also having successfully completed formal industry recognised arboricultural training.

The business is competent and fully resourced in terms of people, premises, infrastructure, plant and equipment to undertake all aspects of arboricultrual i.e. tree surgery work, including: felling, pruning, crown reduction, thinning, hazardous trees, planting, hedge cutting, site clearance, weed killing (spraying), stump and root removal, tree reports and tree surveys.

All work is carried out to BS 3998 and a strict company method statement is followed by all staff that incorporates environmental, health, safety and quality considerations. The business’ Health, Safety, Welfare, Environmental and Business / Quality Management policies are continually reviewed and when necessary, updated and re-issued, with the help of specialist external business consultants, John Lane and Trevor Walker of John Lane Business Consulting.

The business is a corporate member of the Arboricultural Association (AA) and is in the process of becoming an AA approved contractor. It is also registered with the following schemes: CHAS; Constructionline; SAFEContractor; and CheckaTrade.Com.

Steve Owens is the in-house Executive with responsibility and authority for all systems and procedural implementation and for decision making in all aspects of the business.

Steve Owens and the Barkland team have been responsible for contracting to nationally-known organisations and government authorities for many years, including six years with McNicholas Plc on high risk railway associated work for which the business follows very strict Health and Safety guidelines. In any event, the same principles of health and safety management are practiced on all of the
work carried out, for all of the business’ customers, regardless of size or location or whether corporate or domestic. Other customers for whom Steve Owens has provided and managed arboricultural services include:

Cardinal – Kellog Brown Root, on behalf of London Borough of Ealing; Veolia, on behalf of The Royal Borough of Richmond; CIP, on behalf of London Borough of Hounslow; the London
Boroughs of Islington, Wandsworth, Hammersmith and Fulham; Hertsmere Borough Council, Watford Council and The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead; and several property management and
maintenance companies.

In addition to corporate works, there is a domestic work team which operates every day and a 24 / 7 Emergency call out service is offered.
